Producer/Director, Michael Ney (Sensory Image) and producer Frank Shields (Frontier Films) present an innovative feature documentary on the life and work of fetish photographer, Noel Graydon, including an exploration of the fetish scene (BDSM - bondage/discipline, dominance/submission, sado-masochism). This entertaining and informative film is deeply personal and provides a rare glimpse into the fascinating community, which is very hidden - indeed often forbidden, and yet continues to attract worldwide popularity.

Liberty In Restraint first received recognition as an 8 minute short as Finalist in the 2004 MAFIA documentary competition, and screened concurrently in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.

Based on that success, the CineKink Film Festival in New York presented a 35 minute work-in-progress preview on Oct 24, 2004. This was the first USA exposure to the project and was awarded "Best Short Documentary".

Recently US distribution, via Gallant Films, has been confirmed with a retail release in 2008 via Eclectic/MVD Entertainment. See the NEWS page for updates on screenings.

Reviews

"Liberty in Restraint is simply the best documentary on BDSM, and the people that practice and enjoy it, that I've ever seen. It's totally engrossing, absolutely authentic, and well done. Worth watching for the fetish clothing alone. But best of all is how deeply director Michael Ney dives into the real life and psyche of its main subject, Noel Graydon - something rarely seen in sex documentaries. This film is a classy sex classic."
Annie Sprinkle, Ph.D. "Queen of Kink" turned Artist and Sexologist

"An unashamedly heart-felt documentary that attempts to find the big heart throbbing deep within the most hardcore of sexual expressions."
Julian Shaw - FILMINK Magazine

"A fascinating programme that provides much insight into the nature of BDSM and the communities involved. It's style is frank and revelatory but also refreshingly non-judgemental."
Tony Mitchell - Skin Two #52

"A phenomenally shot and beautiful representation of a fetish photographer."
Lisa Vandever, director, CineKink Film Festival, New York
